Pioneering jamtronica outfit STS9 has announced a two-night run at the historic Joy Theater in New Orleans, LA on Thursday and Friday, April 23rd and 24th, 2026 as part of Live For Live Music‘s Fest by Nite series during Jazz Fest [get tickets].

The two-show run in the Crescent City, part of STS9’s national tour supporting 2025’s Human Dream, will mark the group’s first shows in New Orleans since its 2024 New Year’s Eve run, when The Joy Theater provided a last-minute landing pad for Hunter Brown (guitar, keyboards), Dave Phipps (keyboards, synthesizers, programming), Zach Velmer (drums, programming), Jeffree Lerner (percussion, keyboards, programming), and Alana Rocklin (bass guitar) after their planned celebration in Asheville, NC was canceled in the aftermath of Hurricane Helene.

The Joy Theater itself is a monument to New Orleans’ rich heritage and resilient spirit. Originally built on Canal Street in 1947 as a three-screen movie theater, The Joy Theater was hailed at the time as “New Orleans’ newest and most modern film temple.” In 2003, after steadily losing ground to larger multiplex theaters, The Joy closed its doors. The hard times got harder in August 2005 when The Joy was inundated by floodwater during Hurricane Katrina. Still, its massive “Joy” marquee continued to tower over Downtown New Orleans, a hopeful reminder during a time of unprecedented struggle for the city. In 2011, the historic theater underwent a $5 million internal renovation to convert it into a music venue. Since then, it has become a beloved destination for nationally touring acts, special showcases, and many memorable Fest by Nite moments.
