“…And now some scandalous motherfuckers want to take what’s mine, but they can’t take the respect that I’ve earned in my lifetime, and you know they’ll never stop the furious force of my rhymes.”Gang Starr “Moment of Truth”

It’s a sad day for hip-hop, as DJ Premier‘s D&D Studios (aka HeadQCourterz Studios) was forced to shut its doors, due to developers coming in and building luxury apartments. This is a trend that is happening more and more in NYC and Brooklyn, and it is taking away from the rich (and we don’t mean dollars rich) history of the city.

This is the same studio in which such landmark albums as The Notorious B.I.G.‘s Ready to Die, NasIllmatic, and Jay-Z‘s Reasonable Doubt were recorded. Artists such as Big Pun, KRS-One, Dilated Peoples, Fat Joe, Das EFX, Big Daddy Kane, Jeru The Damaja, and so many other recorded at this historic hip-hop landmark. D&D was the studio that played host to the creation of almost every single Gang Starr song that Premier created with his late partner Guru, and was the place in which the producer created all his epic beats since 1992.

In an Instagram post, Premier wrote, “#RichClownsRuinManhattan,” and we coudn’t agree more. Premier is supposedly heading over to Queens’ Kaufman Astoria Studio to continue the hip-hop battle.
