The PitchBlak Brass Band is taking NYC by storm! This hip-hop/brass fusion act brings a serious amount of energy into every song they play, cultivating a loyal following that is sure to grow in days to come.
The 10-piece band is a collective of young musicians, composers, and artists, with diverse backgrounds and influences. Together, the result is simply stunning, allowing for a melding of hip-hop, brass, jazz, and pretty much everything under the sun. The group is returning to The Shrine in Harlem for the February edition of their monthly residency. Dubbed “The PitchBlak Playlist,” the session is essentially a jam with local artists to create new collaborations. The next session includes EIFFELLIFE.
Until then, get excited by checking out the group’s latest single, “Like Us.” The band’s sousaphonist, Chanell Crichlow, told us a bit about the inspiration behind the song, saying “‘Like Us’ is about being the first brass band in NYC to really do hip-hop on another level. We take pride in what we do and want other groups to learn from us, but they gotta come with their own style and their own energy. At the end of the day, you can only do you, and we can only do us.”
