Plans to build a Jimi Hendrix Park in Seattle, WA have been greenlighted, according to a new report in Billboard. The Jimi Hendrix Park Foundation supporting the project has officially announced that a development company, ERRG, Inc., won the bid to begin work on the two-and-a-half acre plot of land across from Seattle’s Northwest African American Museum.

Phase one of the development, called “Little Wing,” will begin next month. That phase includes creating a walkway with a timeline of Hendrix’s life and career, leading to a central plaza where artists can perform. The second phase will include a “shadow wave wall” that features silhouette images of Hendrix.

Janie Hendrix, Jimi’s sister and director of the Jimi Hendrix Park Foundation, said “It is our hope that for generations, [the park] will exist as more than an attraction or point of interest, but a place of homage to one of Seattle’s own… the landscaping, the artistic design, and the ambiance all mimic the vibe of the persona of Jimi, whom this park honors.”
