Prince has always been outspoken against the illegal downloading of music, which makes this story incredibly ironic.

Last week, Prince shared a download link for a new Judith Hill album that he produced, featuring 11 new tracks with the former “Voice” contestant. The download, which as of press time still remains active, encourages fans to “Please spend some time with this music and then share it with someone U love.”

Hill was a contestant on “The Voice” in 2013, and signed an exclusive recording contract with Sony Records. Her producer there, Jolene Cherry (who first recognized Lady Gaga’s talents), has slapped Prince with a copyright infringement lawsuit, seeking punitive damages for going behind Sony’s back to create, and distribute, the record.

Hopefully this gets resolved quickly, because music ought not to be this contentious.
