There have been a number of exciting collaborations at this year’s Gathering of the Vibes – so many we actually made a list – but few were more exciting than the Old & In The Way/Grateful Dead bluegrass tribute set with String Cheese Incident featuring David Grisman and Peter Rowan. With Chris Pandolfi (Infamous Stringdusters) and Blaine Sprouse (Nashville Bluegrass Band) along for the ride last Friday July 31st, the group played an incredible set that included a number of familiar tunes.

Opening with “Pig In A Pen”, the group kept the mood going with a cover of the New Riders of the Purple Sage classic “Panama Red”. “Old & In The Way”, “Lonesome Fiddle Blues”, “Catfish John”, and so many more highlighted this amazing collaboration, though the group did save the best for last with a cover of Grateful Dead’s “Ripple”.
