Touring in support of his new album Back To Birth, Jackie Greene played the Wonder Ballroom in Portland, OR last Thursday, September 10th. After a short, heartfelt opening set by Lauren Shera, Jackie Greene took the stage with his solo outfit, featuring Nathan Dale on guitar, Brian Filosa on bass, and Fitz Harris on drums.

Under the watchful eye of a Jerry Garcia doll, the foursome confidently worked through a long set of solid Americana rock ‘n roll. They played half a dozen tracks from the crisp new Steve Berlin-produced album, as well as several songs from the 2006 album American Myth. They capped the set off with a cover of “Sugaree”.

Greene showcased his instrumental prowess, moving effortlessly between electric guitar, resonator guitar, and keyboards, adding harmonica on several tunes. He’s got a look and stage presence that brings to mind a young Bob Dylan, and his lyrics have evolved to the point where they could easily draw the same comparison.

With his colorful songwriting, instrumental proficiency and powerful vocal delivery, it’s a good bet that people will be discovering, and re-discovering Jackie Greene for years to come.
