Rolling Stone has reported on some heartbreaking news regarding Sharon Jones, leader of the phenomenal band Sharon Jones & The Dap-Kings. Jones, 59, announced at the Toronto International Film Festival that her cancer has returned.

In 2013, Jones was diagnosed with pancreatic cancer. Through intense treatments, Jones was able to overcome the horrific disease, and by 2014 she was in remission. The year was a landmark one for Sharon Jones, as she and her band released Give The People What They Want, and director Barbara Kopple created the documentary Miss Sharon Jones! about Jones’ triumph.

Unfortunately, at the premiere of that film at TIFF, Jones appeared on stage with her oncologist to discuss the news. “I start chemo on Wednesday. But I’m gonna keep fighting. We got a long way to go.” Her oncologist, Dr. James Leonardo, said “People ask me how I can do what I do. This is how.”

On the second day screening the film, Jones reportedly said, “I’m going to do what I have to do. I’m going to sing.”

We wish Ms. Jones all of the best in her ongoing struggles.
