The pending details of the new Coney Island Amphitheater have presented the opening date to be sometime in July 2016. Presented by iStar, the amphitheater’s stage will exist in the newly renovated Childs Restaurant building and the 5,000 seats will be in the lot adjacent to it, all along the Island’s luscious boardwalk. The new development will function all year long, as the venue is adaptable for both summer and winter months.
According to a press release, Brooklyn Borough President Eric Adams announced, “America’s Playground is getting ready to welcome its greatest attraction yet! From its very first performance this summer, the Amphitheater at Coney Island Boardwalk will be a must-visit destination for fun-seekers in search of top-flight entertainment from near and far.”
Live Nation will be operating the amphitheater this summer, with plans to introduce a summer series of live music, comedy, and family entertainment.
With support from the city’s Economic Development Corporation (NYCEDC), their president commented, “Our vision for Coney Island is a neighborhood that preserves the past while building for the future, and that balances a vibrant amusement district with a growing residential community… The Amphitheater is a key component of our investment in the neighborhood, and will soon be home to both world class concerts and community events.”
The above photo captures what the new Amphitheater will look like. Good to know the city is on board for some Live Music!
