Warren Haynes and the Ashes & Dust Band (Chessboxer and drummer Jeff Sipe) set up shop at Penn’s Peak in Jim Thorpe, PA last night as a part of their 2016 winter tour, serving up an evening of sounds that included a good portion of 2015’s Ashes & Dust album, several Allman Brothers Band cuts and a pair of debut covers by the Grateful Dead and Stevie Ray Vaughan

Beginning with the opening track to Ashes & Dust, “Is It Me Or You,” Haynes’ tribute to Jerry Garcia, “Patchwork Quilt,” “Banks Of The Deep End” from the Gov’t Mule catalog and Little Feat’s “Skin It Back,” Haynes and company had their mojo working early. Versions of “Blue Sky” and “Instrumental Illness” would precede a debut cover of the Grateful Dead’s “Candyman” with “Spot Of Time” and the ABB’s “Jessica” bringing up the back end of the set.
