Two of the greatest voices in folk rock history shared the stage last night, as Neil Young & Promise Of The Real welcomed out beloved guitarist Willie Nelson for two songs during their tour opener in Texas. Performing at the Whitewater Amphitheatre in New Braunfels, TX, the show saw Nelson and Young collaborate on “Are There Any More Real Cowboys?,” a Neil Young original not performed since 1993, and Merle Haggard’s classic “Okie From Muskogee.” The latter was played in honor of Haggard, who passed away earlier this month.

Of course, the roots between Nelson and Young run deep, as Lukas and Micah Nelson – Willie’s sons – are the leading figures of Promise Of The Real. Young first teamed with them last year, when they released The Monsanto Years album and toured extensively behind it. The show also featured a number of Young’s classics, including tunes like “Heart Of Gold” and “Down By The River.”
