As Dead & Company’s summer tour winds down, the band is really pulling out all the stops for the fans. Now in their home state of California, the group hit the Irvine Meadows in Irvine, CA to give fans a seriously smokin’ performance. From the opening notes of “Cold Rain and Snow,” the band was locked in, with John Mayer and Bob Weir playing off of each other to perfection. With tracks like “Jack Straw,” “Bertha,” “Black-Throated Wind,” “Loose Lucy,” “Big Boss Man,” and “Mississippie Half-Step Uptown Toodeloo,” the band kept things loose and bluesy during set one.

The biggest surprise of the night came during the middle of the second set, when the band welcomed out The String Cheese Incident percussionist Jason Hann during “Fire Of The Mountain.” Hann would stay on stage for “Fire On The Mountain,” “Dark Star” and “Drums,” joining the Rhythm Devils section with glee. Hann and Oteil Burbridge have collaborated in the past, and their reunion was quite fruitful on the Dead & Company stage.

After the “Drums/Space,” the band segued into “The Other One,” “Stella Blue,” and closed out the set with “U.S. Blues.” A double encore of “Johnny B. Goode” and “Brokedown Palace” ended the show in style.
