Earlier this year, the world lost an icon in David Bowie, who dramatically exited the world with a brand new album called Blackstar or ★. Bowie’s final album is essentially a reflection of his life and his death, as the songwriter knew his days were numbered during the recording process. It was a truly beautiful moment in artistry, however bittersweet it was.

wasn’t the only project that Bowie was working on during his final days, as he composed the entire score for a musical called Lazarus. Starring Michael C. Hall, Lazarus had a successful run off-Broadway, and will soon open up in London. A new cast album compilation is due out on October 21st, and, as Consequence of Sound noted, the album will also feature a handful of original Lazarus recordings by David Bowie himself.

The Thin White Duke recorded three songs, “No Plan”, “Killing a Little Time”, and “When I Met You”, with the same lineup of musicians that orchestrated . Until now, only the cast recordings of these songs have surfaced, so this new release will indeed spotlight some of Bowie’s last-ever recorded music.

As the Bowie family has promised to continue sharing unreleased music from the late great David Bowie, the new Lazarus compilation is certainly a step in this promising direction. Unreleased Bowie music will also be featured on the forthcoming box set Who Can I Be Now?, which will feature a full version of his 1974 album The Gouster. More info here.

Rest in peace, Starman.
