Greensky Bluegrass decided to get ripped, the quick and easy way, at their show at The Depot in Salt Lake City last night. The band came out for their encore looking far more muscle bound than usual. We were lucky enough to speak to the band’s resident “Drop Steel” wunderkind, Anders Beck, and asked him to tell us how it all came about
Anders Beck: Oh, we’re just weird. Trey, our tour manager, found a box of muscle shirts and he knows we’re a bunch of weirdos so he said “You guys GOTTA wear these for the encore tonight.” And we were like…”Okay.” (Chuckles) It was nothing planned out, it was just all in the name of stupid fun.
You find a box of muscle shirts in the green room, what do you do? I think the answer, for most bands is to point at them and laugh. For Greensky, it’s “You wear them during the encore, duh!”
Check back later this week for the rest of Beck’s interview, including thoughts on playing with Phil Lesh, seeing Phish play “Dark Side Of the Moon” and where he sees Greensky Bluegrass heading in the future.
