The Disco Biscuits closed out their four-night Bisco Inferno run in Colorado with a huge rager at Red Rocks Amphitheater on Sunday night, following three nights at Denver’s Ogden Theatre. As per tradition, fans near and far traveled to see the jamtronica pioneers for multiple nights ahead of the grand finale, which concluded at one of the country’s favorite open-air amphitheaters. This year’s installation of Bisco Inferno welcomed up-and-coming jammers Spafford and jazz fusion trio Organ Freeman, which featured Turkuaz’s Mikey Carruba on drums, as opening support. For their respected Red Rocks debuts, Spafford and Organ Freeman threw down monster sets, with Spafford even getting their time-slot extended to a full 90-minutes.

The three nights prior, The Disco Biscuits threw down absolute heaters, displaying their diverse catalog over the sold-out shows at Denver’s Ogden Theatre. Sunday night was no exception as the band got right to business with “Bionic Helix”, starting the night off right, as lighting designer Johnny R. Goode worked his magic on the beautiful natural amphitheatre. The Disco Biscuits’ laser spectacle is a sight to see in any music venue, but there is absolutely nothing in the world like seeing a 9,500 person crowd getting down, in the midst of a picturesque light-show.

Up next was “Tetris (Korobeiniki)”, which segued into a silky-smooth “Svengali (ending)”. Guitarist Jon “Barber” Gutwillig was firing off on all cylinders, showcasing some of his best guitar work from the weekend. There’s no denying that The Disco Biscuits are feeling loose and extremely comfortable, following an enormous 2017, and an even more well-received start to 2018. Marc Brownstein led the group into “The Tunnel”, with Aron Magner and “Barber” laying down a smooth-sailing groove, as the sun set at the country’s most beloved music venue.

A cover of J.J. Cale’s “After Midnight” followed, with every fan under the stars singing along to the classic tune. The Biscuits last played this over the 4/20 run in Philadelphia, finding a magical slot for the beloved tune in recent standout shows. The quartet took the rocker deep into jam territory, eventually landing in a high-energy “Helicopters” to bring set one to a close. After a scorching hot Denver day, a nice breeze drifted through the crowd at set break, allowing the party to catch their breaths and take a seat for a few minutes.

The Disco Biscuits returned to the stage for set two, opening with “Rivers”. With drummer Allen Aucoin holding it down behind the kit, the boys blasted into second set with the frontline of “Barber”, Brownstein, and Magner locking in with each other and taking things deep into jam-territory. A monster sandwich of “Mr. Don”-> “Tricycle”-> “Orch Theme”-> “Mr. Don” came next, showcasing the creativity that these jamtronica veterans have been bringing to the stage for the past twenty years. Crafting a setlist with a minimal amount of songs allows The Disco Biscuits to keep things fresh and creative, and this Colorado run has been nothing short of brilliant.

“Therapy” brought set two to a close, and Marc Brownstein walked to the front of the stage, thanking everyone for a weekend that “the band will never forget”. Every musician aspires to hopefully one day play the historic stage at Red Rocks Amphitheatre, and The Disco Biscuits have seemingly declared Memorial Day weekend as their own Red Rocks annual throwdown. The band came back out for an “On Time” encore, with the concept of time not seeming to be on anybody’s minds, and the Biscuits soared into space one last time to close out a memorable four-night Colorado run.
