Oteil Burbridge, the bassist beloved for his roles in Dead & Company, The Allman Brothers Band, Aquarium Rescue Unit, and more will gather a very special band of “Friends” for a performance at Brooklyn Comes Alive on March 21st at Brooklyn, NY’s Avant Gardner. The collaborative project recently made its “Comes Alive” debut with a headlining performance at the inaugural Denver Comes Alive in January.
One of the many lineup highlights on the Brooklyn Comes Alive lineup, this special Oteil & Friends set will feature guitarists Eric Krasno (Soulive) and Scott Metzger (Joe Russo’s Almost Dead), pianist Jeff Chimenti (Dead & Company), guitarist Tom Guarna (Blood, Sweat & Tears), keyboardist Jason Crosby (Phil Lesh & Friends), drummer John Kimock (Mike Gordon), and percussionist Weedie Braimah. Vocalists Alfreda Gerald and Lamar Williams Jr. (Les Brers, The New Mastersounds) and Lettuce’s two-man horn section of trumpeter Eric “Benny” Bloom and Ryan Zoidis (Lettuce) round out this stellar band lineup.
As one of the most talented and accomplished bass players in rock music, Oteil Burbridge has built a resume that some players only dream of—from his ongoing gigs in Grateful Dead spinoff behemoth Dead & Company and Phish keyboardist Page McConnell‘s Vida Blue to his past roles with Tedeschi Trucks Band, Col. Bruce Hampton‘s Aquarium Rescue Unit and, of course, a fifteen-year stint as a member of the iconic Allman Brothers Band. In so many ways, Oteil is the glue that holds the jam community together.
Burbridge’s fingerprints have been all over the live music community for over three decades. Following the 2017 release of his solo album, Water in the Desert, Burbridge introduced his new project, Oteil & Friends, which has quickly become one of the most exciting acts in the genre, headlining festivals and theater dates nationwide alongside a rotating cast of ace musicians. A collaborative project to its very core, Oteil & Friends is the perfect act for Brooklyn Comes Alive—an event itself inspired by the bustling nighttime streets of New Orleans during Jazz Fest. Even beyond the billed Oteil & Friends lineup, with so many other talented artists in the building at Avant Gardner on March 21st, you never know who might turn up on the stage.
