Beloved Disco Biscuits bassist Marc Brownstein celebrates his 43rd birthday today, and we want to wish him all the best! Brownstein has provided the backbone for the Biscuits’ influential sound, keeping strong elements of funk and classical into the band’s livetronica approach. Brownstein has also been something of a voice for the band, often taking time to share his thoughts and reflections with the group’s loyal fanbase.
In honor of Brownstein’s birthday, we wanted to dig up a gem from one of his past celebrations. What better than a 1999 show at Chameleon Club in Lancaster, PA, which was played on Brownstein’s 26th birthday. A lot has changed in the 17 years between 1999 and 2016, but The Disco Biscuits still remain one of more vital members of the jam community.
While the group is currently playing some of their best music since that young era, there’s nothing quite like a young band eager to impress. This show comes in the middle of a four-night, four-venue run, spanning from 4/7 through 4/10. The energy at this show is something palpable, as The Disco Biscuits open with “The Overture” and play a bunch of their classics, like “Little Shimmy In A Conga Line,” “Morph Dusseldorf,” “Magellan,” and so many more.
Thanks to taper Nick Michels, we have full audio from the show. Dig it:
Happy birthday Marc! Wishing you all the best.
