On Saturday night, Denver-based psychedelic fusion trio Cycles hosted the debut of their interactive Game Show at Cervantes’ Masterpiece Ballroom in Denver. Local bands Chompers and Zeta June handled the evening’s opening duties.

Cycles Unveils “Partyboy Passionfruit Kolsch” Beer Collaboration With Joyride Brewing Company

Hosted by local Denver music aficionado Dennis Craig, Cycles kicked off their two-set performance with the Game Show segment of the evening, inviting fans to engage in various competitions alongside the band playing instrumental, hard-hitting grooves. Contestants partook in a variety of different comical competitions including watermelon- and donut-eating contests, a beer-chugging race, an air guitar battle, the limbo, a glow stick cracking challenge, and much more. Following the Game Show, winners of each contest were called up and given prizes, ranging from a retro toaster to concert tickets to merchandise and various other items.

Following a brief setbreak, Cycles returned and delivered a career-spanning setlist that included fan-favorites along with newer material. The band—comprised of guitarist Patrick Harvey, bassist Tucker McClung, and drummer Collin O’Brien—kicked off their set with “Something In The Water”, which was followed up by “The Ball” and “The House”.

The biggest surprise of the evening came next as the band invited former drummer Michael Wood to sub in for O’Brien behind the drum kit on “The Martyr”. The hometown crowd cheered the band on as Harvey and McClung ripped through some improvisational territory backed by Wood’s tight-knit beats. Following “The Martyr”, O’Brien reemerged and took over the drum duties, while Wood hopped on the keys and took the vocal lead on “Everything Must Go”.

Moving back into their regular three-piece configuration, Cycles continued with “Angel”, “The Box”, “If You Were Gone”, “Get Out Of Your Head”, “The Clock”, and a set-closing take on “Sunrise”. For their encore, the band returned and delivered a debut cover of Natalie Imbruglia‘s “Torn”, giving the crowd one last chance to get down and sing along.
