EXCLUSIVE: Watch Cycles Welcome lespecial Members For This High-Octane Primus Cover In Denver

Cycles is a Colorado-based power trio—composed of guitarist Patrick Harvey, bassist Tucker McClung, drummer Michael Wood—that has been steadily earning a name for themselves in the jam band world. Despite having formed less than three years ago, the band’s hard work and ambition have paid off, with hundreds of shows across the U.S. and an impressive catalog of original and cover tunes under their belt.

For a band so young, Cycles took on the challenge to not repeat songs during their four-night run across Colorado’s Front Range. The run, which was situated during the group’s extensive thirteen-date Colorado winter tour, saw the band perform in Nederland, Fort Collins, and Boulder, with the group rounding things out with a special sold-out performance at Cervantes’ Other Side in Denver on January 26th. During their Denver show, which featured support from lespecial and The Elegant Plums, Cycles had a number of surprises in store for the eager crowd, including a standout cover of Primus’ “Shake Hands With Beef” that featured special guest sit-ins by lespecial’s Luke Bemand and Rory Dolan.

Outside of their common band format as power trios, Cycles and lespecial both share that they’re unafraid to lean into more aggressive sounds, separating themselves out from other groups in the jam scene that tend to focus on more lighthearted tunes. Furthermore, both groups cite Primus as major influences—while Cycles has occasionally covered Primus in the past, lespecial has a longstanding history of covering the legendary Les Claypool-led band for entire sets during select live performances. Thus, Bemand and Dolan were the perfect pair for Cycles to have on hand during the group’s rendition of “Shake Hands With Beef”, off Primus’ 1997 Brown Album.

Today, Live For Live Music is proud to premiere the official live footage of Cycles, Luke Bemand, and Rory Dolan’s high-octane take of Primus’ “Shake Hands With Beef”, from Cycles’ headlining performance at Cervantes’ Other Side on January 26th, 2018. You can check out the official video below.
