Nashville-based indie-rock trio Ben Sparaco and The New Effect celebrate the glorious feeling of independence with their new single, “Living On My Own”, which premieres today here on Live For Live Music.
Singer/guitarist Ben Sparaco reexamines his place in the world and in life’s journey on this self-reflective new track as his melodies glide atop a structured rhythm courtesy of drummer Anthony Quirk and bassist Adam Discipio. The song’s broody first half introduces listeners to the tune with a 1990s-era alternative flow. The music begins to brighten with the sudden presence of uplifting backing vocals that chime in at the second chorus, allowing the listener to sit back and relax to the evolution of the melodies. “Living On My Own” takes a psychedelic turn as the lyrics begin to swell and ooze around the music before Sparaco utilizes that smooth envelope filter guitar tone to send the recording to a groovy finish.
“This is one of the most direct, unapologetic songs I’ve ever written,” Sparaco, a former touring member of the Butch Trucks Band, tells Live For Live Music about the new single. “The lyrics, music, and production are all more aggressive than our last single and EP. A lot of the sounds on this song are a result of experimentation – there’s no synths or samples, even the strangest textures were organically created. Overall, ‘Living On My Own’ is more energetic and closer to how the band sounds live. We look forward to this one becoming a staple at our live shows for years to come!”

Ben Sparaco & The New Effect – “Living On My Own”
“Living On My Own” follows the previously-released “Scared of The Dark” as the latest single off the band’s forthcoming full-length album, expected to arrive in the coming months. The album will follow the band’s 2018 release of their six-track Greetings, from The New Effect EP. Since its arrival on Spotify last month, “Scared of The Dark” has since racked up over 134,000 streams. Sparaco and company look to find similar success with “Living On My Own”.
The band will have plenty of time to continue working the new single into their nightly setlists as they continue their 2019 summer tour this weekend with a show in Jackson Hole, WY on Sunday, July 28th. Their summer run continues into August and September with upcoming shows in Denver, CO (7/30); Mobile, AL (8/30); Boca Raton, FL (9/5); St. Augustine, FL (9/7); and Jackson, MS (9/20) to name a few.
