32 years ago today, on September 4th, 1991, the Grateful Dead descended on the Richfield Coliseum in Richfield, OH with the band’s short-lived lineup featuring both Bruce Hornsby and Vince Welnick to kick off their 1991 fall tour in fine fashion. After a few weeks off the road, the band was eager to get back into action and delivered quite the memorable barn-burner for their Ohio fans with this performance.

Opening with “Let The Good Times Roll”, the Dead settled in with Deadhead favorites including “Jack Straw”, “Walkin’ Blues”, “Friend Of The Devil”, and “Tennessee Jed”. The second set that night, however, was a heater from start to finish and heard the band tear through a nearly-30-minute rendition of their classic “Scarlet Begonias” > “Fire On The Mountain” combination, an especially psychedelic “Drums” > “Space” segment, and some uplifting energy during the jams of “The Wheel” and “Not Fade Away”.
