Twenty-six years ago, the Grateful Dead descended on the Richfield Coliseum in Richfield, OH to kick off a fall tour in style. After a few weeks off the road, the band was eager to get back into action, and delivered quite the memorable barn burner for fans at the Ohio performance.
Opening with “Let The Good Times Roll,” the band settled in with classics like “Jack Straw” and “Walkin’ Blues.” We’re fortunate, because a great video of the whole second set and encore has survived for us to enjoy. The set is a smoker from front to back, including a near-30-minute rendition of “Scarlet Begonias > Fire On The Mountain.” There’s also some great psychedelia in “Drums/Space,” and some uplifting energy in jams like “The Wheel” and “Not Fade Away.”
