When guitarist Joe Marcinek puts a band together for short runs and shows–like last weekend’s Funk Fest Punta Gorda in Punta Gorda, FL–he does not fool around. The fretboard wizard had a quartet of fiery players to back up his own guitar pyrotechnics, tapping String Cheese Incident/EOTO percussionist Jason Haan, Freekbass, Particle’s Steve Molitz and sax man Meesta Juanjamon for his Saturday set at the festival. After a windy pre-party set, Marcinek and company welcomed a packed crowd to the Saturday festival with a fun mix of originals, covers and even a special, unannounced guest.
We’ve got a trio of special highlight clips from Joe’s set, including Sammi Garett of Turkuaz’s special guest spot during a super funky cover of David Bowie‘s “Fame,” which descended into sing-a-long madness. There’s also a disco-infused rendition of the Grateful Dead classic “Shakedown Street” and a fun original, entitled “Sofa”. Check out the tunes below:
