There’s no denying that 1977 was a peak year in the history of the Grateful Dead. After a few years with the Godchauxes, the Dead lineup settled in with some great years on the road.

Fortunately, thanks to some dedicated tapers, recordings of these amazing shows have circulated for years. This performance comes on this day in 1977, when the band hit the Raceway Park in Englishtown, NJ. The one-day festival also featured sets from New Riders of the Purple Sage and the Marshall Tucker Band, paving the way for a great Dead show.

The Dead, in turn, delivered with a classic performance. From the opening “Promised Land” to the encore “Terrapin Station,” the band is just truly locked in. Just listen to that “Eyes Of The World”… wow!
