It was a night of funk in Los Angeles last Friday, February 17th, when Galactic and The Funky Meters teamed up at The Fonda Theatre. Both New Orleans crews lit up the venue, bringing a night of good times and dancing grooves.

The Funky Meters opened the night, pairing original Meters members Art Neville and George Porter Jr. with drummer Terence Houston and guitarist Brian Stoltz. Songs like “Cissy Strut” and “Fire on the Bayou” filled the venue, playing non stop music for their hour-long set. With the comfort level of legends like Neville and Porter Jr., the young drummer had a chance to stand out with his energetic rapid-fire drumming, even drum soloing while blindfolded.

Galactic came out next, brimming with energy from the first notes of the evening. The tight knit band was firing on all cylinders, between their horn section, rhythm players and leading instrumentalists and vocalists. Erica Falls joined the band for a number of songs, engaging the crowd and singing hits like “Hey Na Na” and more. Other noteworthy songs from the set included “Move Fast,” “Cineramascope,” “Right On,” and the show closer, “Dolla Diva.”

It was all smiles for a great night of NOLA in LA. Until next time!
