The last night of January was filled with dancing, drinking, partying… and even stripping. Lotus and their opener Moon Hooch rocked Terminal 5 with sweet sounds from 8 o’clock until deep into the night, with little intermission.

Moon Hooch – the trio from Brooklyn that started their musical performance career in the subways of Williamsburg, Brooklyn – did not skip a beat. Their ability to rile up a crowd: sensational and instantaneous. Their sound: Sax Party.

For those of you who are unfamiliar with Moon Hooch, they are these two guys, Mike Wilbur and Wenzl McGowen, wielding saxophones, and occasionally traffic cones, with James Muschler on drums – and their sound is incredibly unique. They dive into a electro-ska Party as if they were DJing a set. Everybody was off the floor, admiring the musicians stage chemistry and occasional choreographed move.

At the end of their set, they thanked everyone for their speedy popularity and recent successes, and passed the baton over the electro-jam powerhouse, Lotus.

Lotus threw down – I’ve almost never seen a venue get packed so quickly. Their set consisted of funky favorites like “Golden Ghost” off their 2011 self-titled studio album, as well as a few from their most recent album Gilded Age, such as the electro-rock anthem “Let Me In.” Moon Hooch even joined in for a short jam.

As always, Lotus puts on an amazing neon light show – a new groovy vibe ornamenting every track.

What was most surprising was Lotus’ rendition of Daft Punk’s “Around the World”, as well as a short jam transitioning from “Sunrain” into upcoming Norwegian DJ – Todd Terje’s “Inspector Norse.”

Towards the end of the evening, one fan got a little too down and dirty. The infamous fellow ended up in the middle of the ground-level dance floor, where he took off his shirt and dropped trow. He was the star of the show for a short while until security managed to intervene.

All in all, Lotus, as usual, did not disappoint. Their sets are always unique, fun, and dancey. Its easy to agree that they excel in a live setting. Hearing tidbits from their new album The Gilded Age brought something new to their performance.

Moon Hooch’s opening set put everyone in a good party mood, and Lotus brought it home until the late night hours. If you ever get a chance to see either of the two perform live, it is highly recommended. If its at a venue like Terminal 5, you’re almost sure to see something out of the ordinary (like a naked guy clearing the crowd).
