The Soul Rebels and Talib Kweli brought their acclaimed collaboration to the Fonda Theatre in Los Angeles, CA last night, bringing an energetic display of soul drenched roots music. The diverse crowd packed the concert hall, and everyone was there for the same reason – to enjoy some damn good music!

The Soul Rebels opened strong with a series of jamming, solos and even rapping. The show saw solos from each of the instrumentalists on stage: two drummers, two trumpeters (one of them spitting some lyrics as well), two trombonists, the lone saxophonist and even the tuba player each had their time to shine.

After about 30 minutes into the set, the band called Talib Kweli to the stage, drawing an uproar of applause. The Rebels already did an excellent job of getting the party going, and Talib swooped in to get the crowd even more hyped. He stayed for a handful of songs, with a rendition of his song “Get By” as the most memorable. Their cover of Kanye West’s “Touch The Sky” was also quite the memorable moment. Talib also took the time for some political messages, encouraging people to be aware of their privileges and the lack thereof for others.
