TAUK kicked off Halloween weekend here in New Orleans all too perfectly on last Thursday night at The Howlin’ Wolf. The jam-heavy band from Long Island, New York crushed New Orleans, bringing deep fusion, guitar driven jams with the backing of an incredible rhythm section. Through some intense composition and polyrhythmic infused songs, TAUK shows a certain level of professionalism rarely found with young bands these days.

With an incredible light show to accompany the intense evil jams, TAUK proved why they are a steadily growing jam band in a scene that is all too competitive. Comprised of Matt Jalbert (guitar), Charlie Dolan (bass), AC Carter (keys) and Isaac Teal (drums), TAUK’s approach to music blends progressive, rock, funk, and fusion to make up a unique sound that separates them from other “jam” bands. We couldn’t help ourselves from staring in amazement at drummer Isaac Teal laying down some of the sickest grooves we’ve heard in jam-centric music in a long time. Having a powerhouse drummer in a jam band is the most crucial component to a successful jam band, and thanks to Teal, TAUK has that ingredient.

Some of the highlights from Thursday night’s performance were the unique renditions of The Beatles’ “Eleanor Rigby” and Nirvana’s “In Bloom”. These crowd pleasers certainly made for plenty of raging. The display of deep funky grooves and dynamics amongst each band member made for a truly memorable show and we are excited to see how these guys grow and where their music takes them.
