Hailing from Asbury Park, New Jersey, The Shady Street Show Band provides some of the most original, fresh, revitalizing music on the East Coast. With a tone channeling a time warp of rhythm and blues, the band’s collective soul is vast enough to fill the lungs of the entire universe.

Their upcoming record, Revelry, is the band’s first full-length studio album and has built within it the foundations of a sound that, while reminiscent of tradition and folklore, presents a progressive sound that’s maturity speaks volumes of the uniquely individualized players involved.

“Grin wider, groove harder,” is their mantra and to that they so faithfully abide. Led by pianist/vocalist Ryan Gregg, who holds ground of a classy, theatrical performance behind his Fender Rhodes, the core band consists of co-vocalist Lindsey DeSena, with her contagiously sexy attitude, guitarist Zac Silva, bending and snapping the rhythmic feels of a soul-satisfying temperament, Zack Loria on guitar and vocals, sliding his way through unstoppable blues-filled riffs that will drown you in your own imagination, as Kevin Gewen on acoustic bass and AJ Dumm on drums keep the grooves together in a symphony of monumental happiness.

“An important part of the creative process of this album was to let different voices shine through at certain points. Parts were many times written with a certain player in mind, and many times written by the players themselves. The collaborative element of the album, getting to work with so many talented musicians who all had something unique to contribute, is one of the things I value most about the entire experience of creating Revelry,” explains bandleader Ryan Gregg.

With their album dropping on May the 27th, we are pleased to present the Shady Street Show Band’s single, “Don’t Be Fooled By The Rain.” The optimistic tone of the song give lyrics like “Bitter days dragging on, So keep on rolling along. ‘Cause when it comes to the end, We’ll all be laughing again” a new level of meaning, a meaning so awesome it should be written in the sky. They remind us:

Look past the storm. Hope keeps you warm.
Laugh through the pain cause the pain is the norm.
Look and you’ll see the whole world is smiling at me.
And then you’ll know what it is to be free.

Building upon the collaborative efforts that Shady Street vibes within, the track also features Zach Westfall on bass, Mark Masefield on organ, Anthony D’Amato and Emily Grove on backups, along with a beastly horn section that includes Ian Gray (trombone), Joe Gullace (trumpet), Eric Tait Jr. (trumpet), Sean Marks (alto/baritone saxophone), Denis Daley (tenor/baritone saxophone), and Sam Greenfield (tenor saxophone).

“”Don’t Be Fooled by the Rain” is about making it through the tough times, because good times will come again, you just can’t always see them clearly when you’re in the thick of it. It speaks the most to the overreaching theme of the album, which is hope. Everybody struggles in his or her own way through life. After all the pain and heartbreak that just comes from living, there’s always something worth smiling about, and plenty of people to smile with,” explains Gregg of the single.

Truer words are rarely spoken. The Shady Street Show Band provide not only a sound so contagious to put a pep in your every step, but they deliver a message so powerful that we should all consider opening our minds and ears even wider to welcome it in our every day lives.

The band is hosting a very special release party at The House of Independents in Asbury Park on Friday, May the 27th alongside some of the area’s finest young musicians. Joined by Nik Greeley & the Operators, Des & the Swagmatics, Mad Feather Group, and J.T. Makoviecki of Thomas Wesley Stern, the concert is sure to sell out quickly.
