Tower Of Power is celebrating their fiftieth anniversary as a band in fine style with a forthcoming record and a nationwide tour, including a headlining slot at the recent Funk Fest Punta Gorda. Sharing the bill with acts like Joe Marcinek, Here Come The Mummies!, Turkuaz and Voodoo Visionary, Tower Of Power delighted fans young and old with a set of classics and new tracks. After decades of making the music that moves the masses, they were clearly in their element and having as good a time as anyone in the audience.

It’s not like Tower Of Power hasn’t proven their skills time and time again. Besides their own roster of beloved tunes, they have helped artists as diverse as Otis Redding, Aaron Neville, Aerosmith, Bonnie Raitt, David Sanborn, Elton John, Huey Lewis, Little Feat, Heart, Michelle Shocked, Paula Abdul and Santana make magic as well. In fact, their “Wall of Horns” sound is so distinctive, it has become a generic description for the horn section itself.

Tower of Power’s set at Punta Gorda featured a couple of tracks from their soon to be released anniversary disc that seemed to go over well but the biggest cheers of the night were held in reserve for their classics. Check out the fun in the clips in the playlist below and don’t miss your chance to see these bonafide rock and roll icons on tour this summer.
