Happy birthday Umphrey’s McGee! The pioneering hard rock jam band performed their first show at Bridget McGuire’s Filling Station in South Bend, IN, on January 21st, 1998. Though no recording of this historic performance remains, we can still admire the two set, two encore setlist that has been documented of this debut performance. The band played a number of originals, and a handful of them—including “FF”, “Phil’s Farm,” “Divisions” and more—are still in rotation.

The show naturally featured a lot of covers, including a number of Phish songs like “Bathtub Gin” and the “Mike’s Song > I Am Hydrogen > Weekapaug Groove” combination. They also worked in some classic rock staples like Led Zeppelin‘s “Moby Dick” and Talking Heads‘ “Burning Down The House.” Cap it all off with some Def Leppard “Pour Some Sugar On Me” and you’ve got yourself a memorable night in Indiana.

Take a look at the full setlist from the band’s first-ever concert below, via All Things Umphrey’s. While there isn’t any audio from this debut, there is a full audio recording from the band’s second-ever performance, which you can listen to here.
