Back in 2002, the Derek Trucks / Susan Tedeschi union was still blossoming. The pair met in 1999, when a young Derek Trucks had just joined the Allman Brothers as their new slide guitarist, and a young Susan Tedeschi was plucked out of her cozy New England confines to play the role of opening act. The young pair quickly fell for each other, and by 2001 they were married. In March of 2002, the pair had their first child, Charlie, and Susan took several months off from performing as the new family adjusted to a new chapter in their lives.

Fast-forward eight months, and Tedeschi was ready to hit the road again. Both Susan and Derek had new albums coming out–Wait For Me by Tedeschi and Joyful Noise by Derek Trucks Band–and the musical family were excited to get back in the swing of things. With that in mind, the two joined forces for an appearance on CBS’ Second Cup Café. The duo plus their band (which included a young Kofi Burbridge and a young Mike Mattison) gave a brief interview, with Derek and Susan talking about what they like about each other’s musical talents while discussing some of their own influences.

The pair worked through two songs during the appearance: Tedeschi’s version of Paul Pena‘s “Gonna Move” and “Joyful Noise” by Derek Trucks Band. Both songs are awesome, and showcase the true power of both Trucks and Tedeschi. When watching this video, it’s crystal clear why this loving family eventually decided to join forces and turn themselves into one big band as the Tedeschi Trucks Band
