Gov’t Mule and The Avett Brothers will embark on a six-date co-headlining tour through parts of the Northeast and Midwest this summer. The Avett Brothers will play the first headlining set each night before Gov’t Mule treats fans to one of their acclaimed “Dark Side of the Mule” tributes to Pink Floyd. Additionally, Rich Robinson and Marc Ford-led post-Black Crowes project The Magpie Salute will open every night of the tour with a set of their own.
The tour will kick off on July 12th at Northwell Health at Jones Beach in Wantagh, NY. From there, the three bands will head to Holmdel, NJ, and Mansfield, MA. A six week break will follow, with the tour reconvening in Noblesville, IN, Tinsley Park, IL, and Clarkston, MI in late August.
Gov’t Mule – “Fearless” (Pink Floyd cover)
According to the tour announcement, in Gov’t Mule’s more than 2,000-show history, the band only played a full “Dark Side of the Mule” set on two occasions: Halloween 2008 and Mountain Jam 2015. The band also released their 2008 Halloween show—which included 14 Pink Floyd covers—as the live album Dark Side of the Mule in 2014 (listen below). Nevertheless, this upcoming tour, as well as their “Dark Side of the Mule” show at the 2018 Peach Music Festival will be the most ambitious live tribute to Pink Floyd of their career.
