In the past week, DJ and producer GRiZ has been teasing a big change on the horizon for him, posting an image of blurred-out pieces of papers with the caption “it’s about time we talked” on Wednesday and noting on Twitter on Tuesday, “I’m gonna miss u guysssss.”

While these cryptic clues had many fans in a panic about his retirement (at time of publication, he is still scheduled to perform the first weekend of Electric Forest with the GRiZ Live Band), it seems as though the artist, also known as Grant Kwiecinski, is looking for a clean slate. He’s recently deleted his Instagram, leaving only a new picture of a blank piece of paper, implying that he’s looking for a fresh start and will be focusing on new projects in the coming months.

However, today, Kwiecinski posted a brand-new animated video him reciting spoken-word poetry over cascading keys provided by Borahm Lee (Break Science, Pretty Lights Live), further bolstering rumors that in future months he will be focusing on new projects and collaborations outside his GRiZ persona. Throwing back to his Wednesday post, his poetry in the video frequently repeats the phrase, “it’s about time we talked,” and addresses larger societal issues.

You can watch the video, which was shot by Josiah Jones, animated by Gabyo, and directed by Jason Siegel, below.
