Since the launch of SiriusXM‘s limited-run Phish Radio station last Friday, listeners have been buzzing about “Ask Trey”, the channel’s centerpiece segment in which guitarist Trey Anastasio fields questions from fans in a conversation with program host Ari Fink. Today, SiriusXM has shared one particularly amusing video clip from their “Ask Trey” session about Anastasio’s first encounters with his eventual bandmate—and their band’s namesake—Jon Fishman.

Responding to a fan’s inquiry about his first impressions of Fish, Anastasio explains that he has a vivid memory of seeing the drummer from afar on his first day at the University of Vermont. “I saw this guy walk by, I’ll never forget it,” Trey explains, bashfully beating around the bush before finally relenting that it was “kind of like love at first sight… I really mean that.” He continues, “This guy goes by with, like, a tie-dye down to his knees… and this big, huge hair, and these ill-fitting coke bottle glasses, and this ridiculous look on his face. … It’s crystally burned in my memory. … I was like, ‘Oh my god, who is that guy?'”

Shortly thereafter, Trey wound up knocking on Fishman’s dorm room door, meeting him formally, seeing his drum set, and immediately beginning to play music with him. The rest, as they say, is history. Watch the clip below:
