Pearl Jam invited Red Hot Chili Peppers drummer Chad Smith and guitarist Josh Klinghoffer to join them on stage for a cover of Neil Young’s “Rockin’ In The Free Word”  during a show in Rio de Janeiro the other day. The collaboration marked Pearl Jam’s latest collaborative rendition of the 1989 hit, coming four years after the band welcomed Arcade Fire’s Win Butler to help them out in Australia.

Pearl Jam frontman Eddie Vedder’s signature bravado is on display for much of the tune, most notably when he tosses a bunch of tambourines into the crowd before pouring a rather large bottle of red wine all over himself. The song, which came toward the end of the band’s 11-song encore, also saw Pearl Jam drummer Matt Cameron switching between the kit and the tambourine while Klinghoffer traded solos with guitarists Stone Gossard and Mike McCready. In short, it’s the kind of that would probably make Neil Young proud. Give it a watch below.
