If you have heard any of the music Phish played on tour this summer, you surely noticed the many new low-register sounds and tones emanating from guitarist Trey Anastasio‘s ever-evolving stable of effects.
As the tour wound down, Anastasio took some time at Shoreline Amphitheatre to record a nearly thirty-minute tour of his summer 2021 Phish guitar rig.
The video initially aired in two parts during the set breaks of the LivePhish webcasts of the band’s tour-closing Saturday, 9/4 and Sunday, 9/5 shows at Dick’s Sporting Goods Park, and is now available to watch in full via YouTube.
The Trey Anastasio guitar rig tour is a must-see for any gear nerd, and even provides some interesting context for less technically-inclined fans, like the fact that the vintage Mu-Tron envelope filter he’s using this year is the same model that Jerry Garcia used and was given to him by members of the Phish community on behalf of late fan and friend Bobby Niebish. Plus, you know you’ve been wanting to hear about that “Jedi” button on the pedal board that made the rounds online earlier in the tour.
If that’s not enough to seal the deal, Trey closes out the video with a peculiar stare that’s good for a few good laughs and, of course, a few strong memes. We love your new bloops, Red. Thanks for the rundown.

We’ll see you back out there in a few weeks for fall tour. Until then, the guitarist is set to re-form the Trey Anastasio Band for a brief fall run. For a list of upcoming TAB tour dates, head here.
