Brittany Howard is already a huge name, serving as the lead singer and guitarist for the blues and Americana ensemble Alabama Shakes. Yesterday, via sparse posts on social media featuring the caption “NEW BAND ALERT: BERMUDA TRIANGLE” and a photo of three women, Howard cryptically announced a new project on her plate. The project dubbed Bermuda Triangle is a Nashville-based all-women trio, which also features Jesse Lafser and Becca Mancari, and is crafted with more club-sized venues in mind, with the group’s live debut set for July 12 at Nashville’s East Basement.
In a brief write-up via NPR, Howard noted that Bermuda Triangle’s sound is focused on “sad dance hall music” and that their upcoming set will feature unreleased music from all three women. As Mancari explained about the group’s inception, “We just sit on each other’s porches and play music. . . . It’s the music that I remember that I used to play before I even came to Nashville, when people just played for fun. That’s my side of the story at least.” When teaming up as Bermuda Triangle, the three singer-songwriters will present “heavy harmonies” paired with drum machines and “someone on a standup bass,” the singer also noted.

Their upcoming performance is presented by She Shreds magazine, a media outlet focused on highlighting women guitarists and bassists. While tickets for the project’s debut were originally priced at 7$, the intimate show is now sold-out. Howard, in addition to her work with Alabama Shakes, also fronts a throwback punk side project dubbed Thunderbitch, which released an LP back in 2015. Thus far, plans for an album from Bermuda Triangle have yet to be announced. Keep an eye out for more news from Bermuda Triangle after the project premieres next week, and you can catch Brittany Howard on the road with Alabama Shakes as they make their way through a handful of dates in the summer.
