The Allman Brothers Band has announced plans to reissue the recording of their famous live performances at the Atlanta Pop Festival over July 4th weekend in 1970. The Allman Brothers Band Live At The Atlanta International Pop Festival is set for digital release this Friday, October 23rd, with a two-CD physical release set to follow in March of next year.

The shows, which took place on July 3rd, 1970 and after midnight on July 5th, 1970, brought in over 500,000 attendees to Byron, GA’s Middle Georgia Raceway and showcased the band’s original lineup—Gregg Allman (keys/vocals), Duane Allman (guitar), Dickey Betts (guitar), Berry Oakley (bass), Butch Trucks (drums) and Jaimoe (drums)—honing their impressive live craft in the months before the recording of their more widely-noted live release, 1971’s At Fillmore East. Highlights from the performances include a 28-minute “Mountain Jam” featuring a sit-in from by Johnny Winter.

The live audio to appear on Live At The Atlanta International Pop Festival was initially released by Columbia Records in 1971 and featured select cuts from sets by ABB, Jimi Hendrix, Johnny Winter, Poco, Sly and the Family Stone, and others. The Allman Brothers Band Atlanta Pop 1970 set was issued in full by Sony Legacy in 2003, but has been out of print since. Now, 50 years after the performances, the full, two-disc collection is being made available digitally for the first time on the Allman Brothers Band Recording Company label.

The group also recently released a pair of live albums with The Final Note (Duane Allman’s last show in 1971) and Warner Theatre, Erie, PA 7/19/05 (also known as “The Best Show You Never Heard,” a band-favorite live show from 2005).
