Amanda Shires on Tuesday announced details of her forthcoming solo album, Take It Like A Man. Out on July 29th via ATO Records, the announcement arrives alongside the lead single, “Hawk For The Dove”.
On Take It Like A Man, the singer-songwriter-violinist calls on her many colleagues including her husband Jason Isbell as well as Brittney Spencer and her The Highwomen bandmates Maren Morris and Natalie Hemby. The ten-track collection will arrive barely nine months after Shires’ holiday album, For Christmas.
“Hawk For The Dove” is written firmly in Shires’ own voice, which exists entirely independently from her part-time role in Isbell’s The 400 Unit. She gives fair warning “You can call me serious trouble / Just admit I’m what you want,” as she proclaims and maintains autonomy.
“I want people to know that it’s okay to be a 40-year-old woman and be more than just a character in somebody else’s life,” Shires said of the single. “The song and the visual representation of the song deal with the emotions that turn prey into predator.”
