Last week, Anderson .Paak officially released his latest album, Ventura, via Aftermath. Executive produced by Dr. Dre, the new record comes as a quick follow-up to .Paak’s acclaimed late-2018 release, Oxnard, which was recorded during the same session. .Paak’s new album boasts a number of exciting featured artists including hip-hop heavyweight André 3000 (Outkast), iconic soul singer Smokey Robinson, Lalah Hathaway, the late Nate Dogg and more.
On Friday, Anderson. Paak & the Free Nationals performed at Coachella for their weekend two kickoff, and enlisted some notable guests to help out throughout his set. First, .Paak invited up R&B vocalist Brandy to offer a helping hand on “Jet Black”, off of his Ventura album. Anderson .Paak later called on Jay Rock to assist on “King’s Dead”, a tune off of Black Panther which was originally performed by Rock, Kendrick Lamar, Future, James Blake, and Mike Will Made-It. Jay Rock also performed his Redemption track “Win” alongside .Paak.
Anderson .Paak would go on to perform a plethora of select Malibu, Ventura, and Oxnard cuts, as well as a tribute to the late Mac Miller and Nipsey Hussle. .Paak offered up a moving performance of “Dang!”, his collaborative track with Miller.
