Andy Frasco rounded up an impressive cast of characters for his new single “Life is Easy”, featuring Billy Strings, Phish’s Mike Gordon, Daniel Donato, and Steve Poltz. The track will appear on Andy Frasco & The U.N.’s upcoming album, Growing Pains, out May 23rd.
The toe-tapping single finds humor in the absurd overwhelm of modern life. Frasco and Poltz wrote the song together and trade verses in a simplistic style, “But we’re all eating up / They s–t they’re feeding us / They’re selling us the blood while they’re bleeding us,” Frasco sings. Though the problems stack up, the song’s overall message is one of hope—a call to action to go outside and listen to the birds when the internet starts to drive you crazy. Behind the singers, Strings’ hearty acoustic guitar gives the track warmth while Donato adds lighthearted electric guitar chirps, and the tune bounces along on Gordon’s bass.
“Andy Frasco is a mids-smokin’ Mitzvah for everyone who has ears to hear,” Donato said. “He has the comedic audacity of Andrew Dice Clay, the minimalist profundity of Shel Silverstein, wrapped in a warm-hearted Mr. Rogers style demeanor tinged with psychedelic illumination.”
“Life is Easy” is emblematic of Frasco’s stylistic maturation on Growing Pains, his tenth studio album. Known at campgrounds and bars nationwide as a wild and crazy guy, Frasco shows how he’s grown with songs that balance his trademark sultry witticism with hard-won experiences of life spent on the road.
“I wanted to show people how I’ve grown as a songwriter,” Frasco said of the new album. “That I wasn’t just a crowd-surfing party guy in a bar band. This record is about finding balance in both music and life—focusing on the simple pleasures, embracing the grind, and taking nothing for granted because there are no guarantees tomorrow.”
