Animal Years, the Americana-rock trio that emerged out of the Brooklyn music scene throughout the 2010s before relocating to Nashville earlier this year, have returned with their first original music since 2017 with the newly shared “Talkin’ To You”.

The 3:36-minute song was released independently by the trio this past Friday and hears the group fronted by singer/guitarist Mike McFadden leading the trio through the lively tune with the familiar clean crunch of his Rickenbacker guitar. The song was one of the many the band recorded in Nashville back in February 2019 with help from producer Paul Moak.

“Talkin’ To You” looks to start the next chapter for the band, who wrapped their latest album cycle back in 2017/2018 with the release of their Far From Home EP and a run of national tour dates supporting Blues Traveler.

“The song is based around that classic theme of ‘look at me now,'” McFadden says in a press statement about his band’s latest release. “l wanted to write a song for anyone who’s succeeded past someone else’s expectations. It’s a direct ‘F you’ to the person who didn’t believe in them and then came crawling back.”
