If any of you were watching the Notre Dame vs. Michigan game on ESPN this past Saturday night, you probably witnessed the awkward interview that the ESPN Saturday Night Football crew of Brent Musburger and Kirk Herbstreit conducted with rapper Eminem (aka Marshall Mathers), as the MC is promoting his new album The Marshall Mathers LP 2, due out Nov. 5th. He was also debuting the premier of the first single off the album, “Berzerk“, which was produced by Rick Rubin.
Seemingly lost while being introduced, Eminem finally realizes that Musburger is asking him a question and asks him to repeat the question, saying “Sorry, live TV freaks me out a little bit.” During the interview, Herbstreit doesn’t really say much, but can barely contain his laughter at the ridiculousness of the situation. He does ask Mathers what he is most excited about with the new album, to which he receives the response, “Nothing,” then goes on to say that he would probably be “most excited to just be done with it.”
Towards the end, the interview does get better, which leads us to believe it was a bit of an act for Eminem. Either way, for those watching it, you can’t help but cringe just a bit at the overall uncomfortable vibe in the room. He does say that Musburger is on his “Fantasy Announcers” Team, however, which was pretty funny, even calling him a legend, to which Musburger returns the favor, listing all of Eminem’s accolades. Mathers responds with saying, “I’m really uncomfortable right now.”
