In honor of the tour opener in Maine on Wednesday, we are bringing you footage of Phish and Jay-Z backstage from Phish’s shows in Brooklyn’s KeySpan Park (since renamed MCU Park) in 2004 which recently surfaced (via Tweezerburger.com), in which Hova came out to a surprised and extremely responsive crowd to perform “99 Problems” and “Big Pimpin'” with the Vermont quartet. This was a pretty epic special guest appearance in Phish lore, and many wouldn’t be wrong to think that this was the catalyst of Jay-Z bringing a live band to future performances; as this was probably the most rowdy crowd he had ever seen to that point.
