Husband-and-wife duo Béla Fleck and Abigail Washburn have released a brand new music video for “Take Me To Harlan” from their 2017 release, Echo in the Valley. The video is inspired by the night they met, with Fleck on stage picking at his banjo and Abigail dancing innocently and purposefully. As their relationship has evolved, so have their careers. Now together on the road with their toddler, the music video for “Take Me To Harlan” tells the story of their love.
As Rolling Stone notes, “Béla Fleck and Abigail Washburn met at a square dance in Nashville. She was dancing. He was playing. Fifteen years later, they’ve built entwining careers — as well as a family — upon that initial encounter, touring the world together as a Grammy-winning, husband-and-wife folk duo.”
The video for “Take Me To Harlan” reflects that first night together, with Fleck’s playing complemented by Abigail’s stomping. Almost instantly, their rhythms are synced. Dance group Pilobolus are featured throughout the video, serving as the moving stage light in the opening scene, which features Abigail singing a cover of “Come All You Coal Miners”, and dancing on through the end.
Recorded at Pilobolus’ studio in Connecticut, the video also features clips from the duo’s most recent tour. Traveling from city to city, with the family all together, the story of Béla Fleck and Abigail Washburn is a beautiful one.
