Legendary funk and soul drummer Bernard “Pretty” Purdie, who has played with everybody from James Brown, B.B. King, Herbie Hancock, Dizzy Gillespie and many more over the years, has assembled an all-star quartet consisting of keyboardist Ivan Neville (Dumpstaphunk), bassist Pete Shand (The New Mastersounds), and guitarist Brian J (The Pimps of Joytime). The group “Bernard Purdie & Friends” is set to make their debut at the upcoming Bear Creek Bayou Music Festival down in New Orleans on Friday, September 30th.

Both Shand and Brian J helped play on and co-produce Purdie’s upcoming original album (set for a Spring 2017 release), which was recorded at Vibromonk Studio’s in Brooklyn, NY. This should make for one hell of a new funk group.
