Members of Big Gigantic, Brazilian Girls, The String Cheese Incident, and more are coming together for a special collaboration project dubbed “Big Brazilian Cheese.” The group, made up of Aaron Johnston and Jesse Murphy of Brazilian Girls, along with The String Cheese Incident’s Michael Kang, Big Gigantic’s Dominic Lalli, and John Scofield Uberjam member Avi Bortnick are no strangers to each other and will join forces for what is sure to be an epic Colorado run from January 10th-13th. The run will be highlighted by a performance at Denver venue Cervantes Masterpiece Ballroom’s 15th Anniversary Celebration and three mountain performances in Steamboat Springs, Avon, and Crested Butte.

Back in 2015, longtime friends and musical collaborators Johnson, Murphy, and Bortnick, were joined by Kang for a late-night performance at New York City’s DROM following The String Cheese Incident’s performance at The Theatre at Madison Square Garden under The Aaron Johnston Experiment moniker. The “live trance abstraction” turned into a wild night of improvisation and collaboration, and a reunion has been brewing ever since that performance. Now, the collaboration of talented musicians will make a much-anticipated return in January 2018, this time bringing in Big G’s Dom Lalli to join the fold. This combination of uber-talented artists has all the makings of a truly unique musical experience. Johnston, in particular, will be debuting another new project, dubbed J.E.D.I. (Jazz Electronic Dance Improvisation) with members of Lettuce, Break Science, and The Nth Power this weekend in Philly, NYC, and Albany (check out info about that here).

The tour begins on Wednesday, January 10th in Steamboat Springs, CO at Old Town Pub, followed by performances at Agave in Avon on the 11th, and the Public House in Crested Butte on the 12th. The group will be joined by J.WAIL Live Band, a Boulder-based electro-funk act, who will provide support for the BBC supergroup for the first three dates. On Saturday, January 13th, the mini-run will culminate with a final performance at Cervantes’ Masterpiece Ballroom to celebrate the venue’s 15th anniversary. The co-headline performance will see a set from Big Brazilian Cheese, along with a set from Octave Cat, the latter of which features Lotus’ Jesse Miller, Dopapod’s Eli Winderman, and Charlie Patierno. Borahm Lee (Break Science) has been tapped as a special guest for the BBC set as well, just adding to the powerhouse bill.

Prior to the Big Brazilian Cheese set each night, both Johnston and Murphy will perform a mini-set with their duo project Bang Tone, which will segue seamlessly right into the BBC headlining set.
