Big Head Todd and the Monsters brought their winter tour to Levon Helm Studios in Woodstock, NY for a Monday night barn burner.
The veteran blues rockers easily sold out the former home of Levon Helm’s famous Midnight Rambles, which continues to uphold the late The Band drummer’s spirit with intimate performances that feel more like family gatherings than concerts. It was no surprise that the show was packed with ecstatic fans, but it was just one among the many sold-out dates on the band’s ongoing tour.
The band—comprised of Todd Park Mohr (vocals, guitar, keys, sax, harmonica), Brian Nevin (drums, percussion), Rob Squires (bass, vocals), and Jeremy Lawton (guitar, keys, vocals, steel guitar)—played songs from throughout their 35-year career, including fan favorites “Please Don’t Tell Her”, “It’s Alright”, “Bittersweet”, and their signature cover of John Lee Hooker‘s “Boom Boom”, plus additional covers of Willie Dixon‘s “Sittin’ and Cryin’ the Blues” and Looking Glass‘ “Brandy”. A pairing of “Broken Hearted Savior” and Tom Petty‘s “You Wreck Me” capped off the night in the encore slot.
