In addition to being one of the world’s top comedians, Bill Burr is a dedicated drummer. The multi-talented actor, writer, producer, and podcaster has been studying with renowned drummer and educator Dave Elitch and recently got to put his lessons to the test playing drums with an all-star band at rock and roll comedian Dean Delray‘s Bon Scott tribute show in Hollywood.

Held at Avalon on Tuesday, the event began with stand-up comedy sets from Delray and Burr, which was followed by two hours of Bon Scott-era AC/DC tunes played by a band comprised of Scott Ian (Anthrax), Dave Lombardo (Slayer), Josh Freese (Foo Fighters), Larry LaLonde (Primus), Mike Inez (Alice In Chains), Steve Gorman (The Black Crowes), Jay Buchanan and Scott Holiday (Rival Sons), and Billy Rowe (Buckcherry).

Burr’s teacher, Dave Elitch (The Mars Volta/Miley Cyrus/Justin Timberlake/M83), posted a clip of his pupil sitting in on AC/DC’s “Walk All Over You” to Instagram, writing, “I have people ask me all the time ‘so how’s [Bill Burr] at the drums?’ Well, check it out for yourself!”

Burr has often discussed his experience taking up the drums and said watching players like Dave Grohl and Steve Smith (Journey) helped inspired him to keep growing as an artist. He has sat in with classic rock-oriented bands a few times before, including a John Bonham tribute show and previous editions of Delray’s Bon Scott tribute, which has been running on and off for 40 years.
