Grateful Dead drummer Bill Kreutzmann is excited to join back up with Reed Mathis (Golden Gate Wingmen), Tom Hamilton (Ghost Light, Joe Russo’s Almost Dead), and Aaron Magner (The Disco Biscuits) for the first Billy & The Kids performances since 2016.

While Bill’s obviously excited about the return of Billy & The Kids and his upcoming shows with Dead & Company, he’s also made a point to show love to Aron Magner’s jazz trio, SPAGA. In a Facebook post, Kreutzmann commented,

Dear Aron Magner,

I’m glad to hear that “set break is over” for The Disco Biscuits, but I also wanted to congratulate you on launching your own band, SPAGA. I was listening to the album while I packed for tour and it’s great music, this SPAGAband. I don’t know what that word means but I know how the music makes me feel. It’s very comforting. Hope to see you soon my friend.

Much love,
Billy (and the Kids)

We couldn’t agree more, Billy. Kreutzmann is also a noted fan of The Disco Biscuits and spoke about them and their abilities in detail in his book, Deal: My Three Decades of Drumming, Dreams, and Drugs with the Grateful Dead:

It’s bands like Phish and the Disco Biscuits that really make me proud of what the Grateful Dead did, because they keep our spirit alive by taking what we created and doing their own thing with it. If people insist that we were the forefathers, well then the kids have all grown up and moved out and given birth to babies of their own. Music should never be stagnant.

He has even joined the band live (along with his fellow Rhythm Devil, Mickey Hart) on several occasions.
